Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection

image

2008 marked the sixth anniversary of the successful collaboration between Outset, Frieze Art Fair and Tate. This unique partnership, based on the generosity of Outset, a group of London patrons, enables Tate to buy important work by emerging artists at the fair for the national collection. With a fund of over £775,000, 72 works by 45 significant international artists have been collected since 2003.

In 2008, major works by Hurvin Anderson, Andrea Fraser, Bela Kolárová, Lorna Simpson, Tris Vonna-Michell, and Akram Zaatari were chosen by Thelma Golden (Director and Chief Curator at The Studio Museum in Harlem) and Sabine Breitwieser (independent curator and General Secretary of CIMAM) following guidelines provided by Ann Gallagher (Head of Collections, British Art, Tate), Jessica Morgan (Curator of Contemporary Art, Tate) and Frances Morris (Head of Collections, International Art, Tate).

The Fund is organized and financed by Outset Contemporary Art Fund and enjoys sponsorship from Laurent-Perrier and Le Méridien with additional support from John Jones. The donors all have a particular interest in enabling Tate’s acquisition of emerging and contemporary art, and we are very grateful to all the participants for their generosity.
